🤼 Arm Drag Mechanics 🤼
The arm drag is a fundamental tool in grappling, wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu used to off-balance an opponent, create angles, and open pathways to control or takedowns.
The mechanics are simple but highly effective: you control the opponent’s wrist or triceps, then pull them across your body while stepping to the outside. This isn’t just an arm movement — you’re dragging the opponent’s whole structure, breaking their balance, and redirecting their body as you change angle. The key is combining hand control, footwork, and hip movement to create leverage and timing. 🔥

Why do we pummel?
Pummeling is one of the foundational drills for developing clinch control, hand fighting, and close-quarters awareness. By “swimming” the arms inside to fight for underhooks and overhooks, students learn positioning, pressure, posture, and control while staying active against resistance.
Underhooks help create control, pressure, and opportunities for takedowns. Overhooks help control and counter an opponent’s position. Constantly working to improve inside position develops timing, sensitivity, and the ability to react under pressure. 🔥
In grappling and clinch-based systems, pummeling is used to build the skills needed for fighting in uncomfortable close personal distance — where balance, leverage, and control matter most. These drills translate directly into clinching, takedowns, self-defense, and overall grappling effectiveness.

In Israeli Krav Maga, “Retzev” means continuous motion / continuous attack — flowing from one strike to the next without stopping.
Retzev is a core concept in Israeli Krav Maga training, teaching students to continue fighting aggressively and effectively under stress instead of stopping after a single technique. The goal is to overwhelm the attacker with nonstop forward pressure, combatives, and decisive action until the threat is neutralized.
In the context of knee strikes, Retzev is constant pressure. Controlling the opponent, using push-pull mechanics, and driving repeated knees to overwhelm and dominate the situation. One strike flows into the next with nonstop forward pressure and combatives. 🔥
