It’s crazy to think that the holiday season is already here … and most of you may think of this as an obstacle for your health and fitness goals, but I’m here to help show you it’s not!
Thanksgiving usually starts the halt on our fitness goals until the New Year begins … but that doesn’t have to happen this year.
I’ve been doing this whole fitness thing for 8 years now and here is how I still enjoy the day without feeling bad for it.
Keep your routine the same:
Make sure you are still getting your normal movement, meals, water, supplements, etc. If you’re afraid of missing out on your movement… make sure you're getting up a bit earlier to get that in before the festivities begin.
Keep your protein portions the same prior to your events… but lessen your other carbs and fats to save room for your food later in the day that isn’t apart of your plan.
You should still be getting in your normal amount of water, or more, to help with digestion and appetite control.
Still take your supplements like you would … you’re taking them because they help you reach your goals that much easier.
Limit alcohol or choose a lower calorie option:
If you’re someone who likes to enjoy a beverage here and there around the holidays… go for the lighter options. They low cal/light beers, seltzers, and clear liquors can be great substitutes for you.
Alcohol can cause your body to store more fat than gaining muscle, so if you can stay away from it… do that instead.
Prioritize your more nutritious food options first:
You can still enjoy your fun Thanksgiving dinner, but go for bigger portions of the food that won’t derail you. Your foods with more protein (turkey, ham, etc.) should be at least a palm size portion or more. Lucky for us, turkey is a very lean source of protein!
Eating the higher carbs and fats foods (Mac and cheese, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rolls, butter, oils, etc.) won’t completely derail you but should be portioned to a closed fist or less. Or maybe choosing the Mac and cheese over the mashed potatoes, vice versa, instead of both is a good way to stay on track as best as you can too.
Salad and veggies are a great way to eat volume to keep you full and away from the things you don’t need to overload on.
And of course ... make sure you enjoy yourself!
Don't stress too much about food or losing progress ... just use these tips and be mindful of your situation. If you do that, you'll be just fine!
